| Random Office Observation |
It is not uncommon here at the office to be able to hear two sides of the same phone conversation from sitting at your desk. This isn't because the person on the phone is chatting loudly. Most of the time, it's because someone is on the phone with someone else in the same cube farm asking them a question.
When I have a question for someone in the next cube, I walk up to their desk instead of calling on the phone. I'm starting to wonder if I'm old fashioned! :) |

| Total Consecration to Mary, year 2 |
Today marks the first day of the Consecration to Mary by St. Louis de Montfort for those who wish to consecrate themselves on the Feast of the Assumption. I first did this last year on the Assumption, so this marks my first re-consecration.
Please pray for my perseverance this time around. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need it. I'm quite a bit busier this time than I was last time, so I'm sincerely concerned about getting my prayers in. I guess that means it's time to trust in the Lord, right? :) |

| And in other news |
I finished my first book of the summer today!!!
Man and Woman: A Divine Invention by Alice von Hildebrand ended up being a very good read. It highlights the fact that men and women were just made differently by God, with equal dignity, yet with differences which signify what their missions on earth would be. In summary, she indicated how the man tends to (note, these are not absolutes) create and invent more, focusing on the outside world and the things of it. Women tend to be more relational, and therefore do not get mired in the distant logic with which men relate to God. Women see their relationship with the Lord and nurture it. She puts forth the idea that a woman's main mission is that of the spiritual--they are often seen as the "pious" sex, the women are the ones who are seen accompanying Christ on the way to Calvary, and in many ways, a woman's modesty/virtue affects the response of man, and therefore both complement each other in helping to strive to live holy lives.
...but I cannot do the book justice with that short summary, since she touches on so many other topics, so read it yourself! :) (If you have read The Privilege of Being a Woman, a lot of the book will sound familiar to you, but it's still worth reading!) Especially if you're into the "New Feminism," which doesn't seek to masculinize women like radical feminism, but instead seeks to restore femininity to its proper place of respect, this is a good book to read! |

| Just one more thing to be thankful for... |
In one of my random thought paths today (I swear, if I wrote down my trains of thought, then most of you would probably think I am crazy), my mind meandered a bit. I thought of the almost unfathomable fact that my graduation party was 3 years ago tomorrow. I found out that this happened to be the day that Pope Benedict XVI released the "Summorum Pontificium" which encouraged a greater use of the Latin Mass. I don't know much about the SP, but I suppose I should read it someday, since it's most definitely started a lot of movement towards the traditional Liturgy. In awe of this fact, and considering that I had no idea what significant events were happening at the time, then my mind wandered over my high school graduation....over to the calendar and its amazing swiftness...over to the calendar this year...over to the liturgical calendar...back to the day of my graduation.
It turns out that I graduated on the Feast of the Sacred Heart!!!
This is pretty significant to me now for myriad reasons, which I couldn't begin to describe here. But part of me wishes I would've seen the significance then, though I can't blame my 12th grade self for not recognizing it, since I didn't yet know to look for it. But that was my nifty discovery of the day, and I am so thankful for the Lord drawing me ever closer to His Sacred Heart! |
